theCOURAGEOUSPROJECT

Rachael

Rachael chose to do this one the beach, for body positivity.  She realised this could be a platform to share her body positivity beliefs.  I was super excited for this as there’s something special about the sun setting each day and the light it brings.

Tell us a little about you, what do you enjoy, where do you live, where did you grow up?

I enjoy gaming, reading and art projects. Love my garden and upcycling. I was born in Queensland but move to Perth when I was quite young.

What do you feel like has held you back, what limiting beliefs in your world have stopped you?

My anxiety and believing I wasn’t worthy of love and comfort. Believing I deserved only punishment and bad things from the world.

Note from Laine Maria: “Each Shoot I will bring a different prop, activity, as a surprise, something relevant or important to the participant that we can get creative with. I chose this write-on teddy for Rachael as she had talked about wanting to show her inner child through these photos and I thought it would be a good way for her to express what was going on in her head. My favourite bit was when she added her tattoo to the back of the bear, so it really was her”.

What was the lowest point in your journey, at what point did you realise something had to change and what was your first step?

Over the last two years I have tried to end my life several times. I had given up on everything and everyone. But then I had a light bulb moment where I decided to flip my bad behaviours on there head by admitting I did and do deserve love.

What modality/form of therapy/activity has helped?

Art Therapy
EMDR
Meditation and Tapping

If you could say a sentence to your younger self, what would you say?

You are okay. I got you little one.

Do you have a song that gets you going, help puts a spring in your step?

Pointer Sisters – I’M SO EXCITED

What is your deepest fear today?

Regressing back to darker spaces in my life.

What has been the most amazing/happiest/best memory-type-thing that you’ve achieved?

I was pretty stoked when I got into uni. I thought cause I didn’t do high school I would never get in. But did a bridging course and was accepted.

My life has been chaotic but I wake up everyday knowing I have survived this long and I will survive longer.
